Overview of Door Repair Services

What is "Residential Door Repair"?

Residential door repair encompasses a range of services aimed at restoring the functionality and appearance of doors in your home. Whether it's a creaky hinge, a stubborn draft, or a door that won't close smoothly, our experts are equipped to handle all your door repair needs.

Which Types of Doors Do You Repair?

Residential Interior Doors

Hollow Core
Hollow core doors, common in many homes for interior use, can suffer from damage easily, through simple wear and tear or the more rare blunt force. Our repair services ensure these doors are fixed with precision, considering their unique structure and material.
Solid Core
Solid core doors, known for their durability and better sound insulation, can still face issues. We're adept at handling all repairs related to solid core interior doors, from minor fixes to more complex issues.

Residential Exterior Doors

Wood Doors
Wood doors add charm and curb appeal to your house, but unfortunately can be prone to weather damage. Our team excels in wood door repairs, ensuring they retain their beauty and functionality.
Fiberglass Doors
Fiberglass doors offer the perfect blend of durability and style. Our repair services cover common problems (which typically occur on the frame or threshold and not on the slab itself, being that the slab itself is water-proof, rot-proof, and warp-proof), keeping your fiberglass doors in top condition.
Iron Doors
Iron doors, known for their security and elegance, can experience issues like rust or hinge problems. We have the expertise to fix these issues, maintaining the integrity of your iron doors.
Steel Doors
Steel doors are typically builder grade doors, which are only made to last as long as the builder’s warranty lasts. Our door repair services address common problems like drafts or alignment issues, ensuring your steel doors remain secure as long as possible.

What Type of Door Repair Do You NOT Offer?

Glass Door Repair

While we specialize in various door repairs, we do not offer glass replacement or repair services. This includes fixing broken windows or damaged glass panels in doors. We are asked often about the following services which we do not do:

Glass Replacement or Repair

While it’s definitely an unfortunate event to deal with, glass repair is hard to warranty, and we are here to give you lifetime solutions instead of bandaids. We have other solutions to prevent this from happening again, give us a call if you’re dealing with this.

Sliding Glass Door Repair

High quality sliding glass doors should be robust, but if it’s no longer functioning properly, we are able to replace it for you, we unfortunately do not offer sliding glass door repair at this time.

Services and Technical Expertise

Specific Repair Services Offered

Threshold Replacement

A damaged threshold can affect the functionality of your door. We offer threshold replacement services to ensure your door closes smoothly and securely. We remove your existing threshold, replace it with a composite one, trim the door if necessary, and install a new door bottom to ensure it all seals properly.

Forced Entry Repair

Unfortunately, break-ins happen sometimes, and that can not only leave your family at risk with a door that no longer locks, but it can also expose your home to the outside elements if left unaccounted for too long. Our forced entry repair services focus on restoring the security of your home by repairing or replacing the affected doors.

Jamb Replacement

Door jambs can suffer from wear and tear or damage, with one of the most common problems being rot. We provide jamb replacement services to fix these issues, enhancing the security and appearance of your door. It’s very similar to our door reset process, but we take it a step further by replacing your old wooden jamb with a new composite jamb that will never warp, rot, or crack, giving you lifetime protection.

Door Reset

Doors can become misaligned over time, so we offer our door reset service that involves adjusting and realigning your door to its original placement, ensuring it functions correctly. What we do is: from the inside, we’ll take the trim off around the door, take the door off the hinges, and then once we see the exposed door frame, we’ll loosen the door frame from the studs, re-square and level it in that opening. Once that’s squared and leveled we’ll resecure it and put everything back together with new seals.

Door Slab Replacement

When the door itself is beyond repair, we offer door slab replacement, ensuring you get a new door that matches your home’s style and security needs.

Weatherstripping Replacement

Weatherstripping is crucial for energy efficiency and preventing drafts. Our services include replacing old or worn weatherstripping to maintain the comfort of your home.

Door Bottom Replacement

A damaged door bottom can lead to energy loss and pest intrusion. We replace door bottoms to restore the integrity of your door.

The T-Astragal part of your double doors plays a critical role in security and insulation. We offer repair and replacement services for this essential component.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) About Door Repairs

  • Is it better to fix a door or replace it?

When evaluating whether to fix or replace a door, assess the severity of the damage. Minor issues like small dents or scratches can be repaired cost-effectively. In contrast, significant structural damage such as deep rust, large dents, or extensive wood rot typically justifies replacement. Replacing the door allows for enhancements in energy efficiency and security, providing long-term value beyond aesthetics.

  • Can you repair a front door?

Yes, many front door issues can be repaired, sometimes even by yourself. Simple fixes like tightening hinge screws can resolve problems such as a sagging or sticking door. If that doesn’t suffice, sanding the door for a better fit might be necessary, though for precision and to avoid damage, it’s advisable to hire a professional for this task.

  • How do you know when your door needs repair?

To determine if your door needs repair, watch for these key signs: sticking during opening and closing, drafts around the door edges, visible weathering, looseness on hinges, compromised security, cracks or breaks in the door material, and signs of moisture damage like rot or mold. Additionally, if you’re seeking a fresh look or enhanced curb appeal, upgrading your door can be a practical solution.

  • Can a cracked wood door be repaired?

Yes, a cracked wood door can often be repaired using epoxy wood filler. First, fill the crack with epoxy, slightly recessing the filler below the door’s surface. Allow the epoxy to harden, then apply spackle to smooth out the patch, using a putty knife for an even finish. Once the spackle is dry, prime and paint the area to match the rest of the door, restoring a uniform appearance.

  • How long does a typical door repair take?

The typical door repair time can range between 30 minutes up to 6 hours (per door), but it all varies based on the repair’s complexity. We strive for efficiency in all our services.

  • Can you replace just a door jamb?

Yes, you can replace just a part of a door jamb if the damage is localized, typically on the strike side where the lock and doorknob are fitted. Replacing only the damaged section of the jamb is more economical and less complex than replacing the entire frame, though it requires precision to ensure the new section aligns properly with the existing jamb and door for security and functionality.

  • What is the difference between door frame and door jamb?

The terms “door frame” and “door jamb” refer to different parts of the structure around a door. The door frame is the entire framework supporting the door, including both vertical sides and the top of the door. A door jamb specifically refers to the vertical components of this frame. Typically, a door frame consists of two side jambs and a head jamb, which is the horizontal piece at the top. Together, these elements form the complete enclosure in which a door is mounted.

  • How much does it cost to replace door jamb and trim?

The cost to replace a door jamb and trim typically ranges between $150 to $250 per door in the U.S. Most homeowners spend about $175 for installation of prefinished, Colonial-style reclaimed wood trim on one door. Prices can vary based on the type of materials used, the style of the trim, and regional labor costs.
